How It Works:
At Boston Child Study Center, we welcome youth and families of all identities.
The Youth and Family Gender Identity Program at BCSC is devoted to serving the unique needs of transgender and gender-diverse youth, young adults, caregivers, and family members. Additionally, our program serves to support the diverse and intersectional needs (race, religion, socioeconomic status) of the LGBTQI+ community and aims to provide through a trauma-informed, strengths-based, and gender affirming lens.
Services We Provide:
- Caregiver education & support groups
- Transition education for youth & families
- Behavioral Health Assessments and surgery letters
- Medical Affirmation Consultation for youth & families
- Collaboration with local hospitals, schools, and organizations providing medical, legal, and social services for trans and gender–diverse youth and young adults.
- Gender-Inclusive Consultation & Training for schools, communities, hospitals, and clinical practices
Our Model of Care
- Gender affirming care is integral to overall physical and psychological health and wellness. At BCSC we aim to offer accessible, low-barrier access to gender affirming care.
- Like all care at BCSC, the Youth & Family Gender Identity program emphasizes a unique, patient-centered approach. We aim to create spaces of safety, understanding, and support and meet individual needs regardless of identity.
- We provide care in accordance with all major medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, American Psychological Association, American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Endocrine Society.
- We actively collaborate with the Transgender Health Programs at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH), Boston Medical Center (BMC), and other care centers in both Massachusetts and Maine.
