This introductory seminar will present the rationale for a transdiagnostic approach to treating emotion disorders, with an emphasis on understanding emotions as meaningful signals and a core principle of evidence-based treatment. Participants will explore the distinction between primary emotions and secondary emotions and behaviors, and how these responses can be understood within a transdiagnostic framework. The seminar will introduce traumatic conditioning as a core theoretical mechanism underlying trauma and emotion disorders, including how traumatic conditioning can contribute to the development of secondary emotional and behavioral responses. Participants will also be introduced to Dialectical Emotion Therapy (DET), a transdiagnostic intervention for trauma and emotion disorders informed by principles of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ExRP).

This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.

2. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the convention chair will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If you request action, Dr. Jerskey will:
a. attempt to move you to another workshop, or
b. provide a credit for a subsequent year’s workshop, or
c. provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee.
Actions 2b and 2c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by you.
