This introductory seminar will provide clinicians with practical guidance for assessing, managing, and responding to suicide risk in clinical practice. The presentation will review general principles for working with suicidal clients, including identification of risk and protective factors, crisis planning, and strategies for responding to acute suicidal crises. Participants will review evidence-based approaches to suicide risk management, including the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), safety and crisis response planning approaches, and strategies for reducing access to lethal means and increasing social support. The seminar will also address clinical decision-making regarding hospitalization and other interventions when suicide risk is elevated. Finally, participants will review best practices for documenting suicide risk assessments, risk management interventions, clinical decision-making, and final disposition.
Dr. Lyndsey Moran is a licensed clinical psychologist and the Director of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) at the Boston Child Study Center. She provides direct clinical care and supervision of externs, post-doctoral fellows, and licensed clinicians. She specializes in evidence-based treatments for adolescents and young adults with difficulties in emotion regulation, mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, complex trauma, and co-occurring suicidal behaviors and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI).
Dr. Moran received her B.A. in Psychology and Neuroscience at Dartmouth College before earning her Ph.D. in Child Clinical Psychology at the University of Washington. At the University of Washington, she completed a three-year advanced clinical practicum in DBT under the supervision of DBT’s creator, Dr. Marsha Linehan. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School with a focus on providing DBT + Prolonged Exposure and DBT PTSD for treating trauma with co-occurring life-threatening behaviors.Dr. Moran is also a clinical supervisor at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School and has been providing DBT supervision and training since 2016.

To receive continuing education credit for this program, participants must attend the program in its entirety and complete the required program evaluation. Partial credit will not be awarded.

This procedural description serves as a guideline for handling such grievances.
If you wish to file a grievance, please note that the following actions will be taken:
1. If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented by the speaker, or the style of presentation, please put your comments in written format and provide them to Dr. Jerskey. Dr. Jerskey will then pass on the comments to the speaker, assuring your confidentiality.
2. If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the convention chair will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If you request action, Dr. Jerskey will:
a. attempt to move you to another workshop, or
b. provide a credit for a subsequent year’s workshop, or
c. provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee.
Actions 2b and 2c will require a written note, documenting the grievance, for record keeping purposes. The note need not be signed by you.
3. If the grievance concerns the BCSC CE program, in a specific regard, Dr. Jerskey will attempt to arbitrate.
