Carter (they/them) is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts at the Boston Child Study Center. They work in ACT and DBT modalities to treat adolescents from diverse backgrounds with challenges in developing coping skills, self- and co-regulation, and interpersonal skills. In sessions, Carter values autonomy and authenticity with adolescents, and emphasizes practicing skills within each session alongside clients. They approach all clients with a trauma and neurodiversity-informed lens, as well as a focus on our developing identities across gender, sexuality, and cultural spectrums.
Carter received their B.A. in psychology from the University of Rochester, and their M.A. in Mental Health Counseling & Behavioral Medicine from the Boston University Medical Center. During completion of their M.A., Carter worked as a floor counselor for the short-term child inpatient unit at Cambridge Health Alliance, where they aided in group management and rapport-building with children of various presentations. They completed their practicum with Baycove Crisis Team in Fall River, and their internship with Riverside Life Skills Center in Milford. Carter transitioned into working as a full-time clinician with the Riverside Life Skills Center & Riverside School in Needham, where they have run DBT, CBT, and ACT-informed groups, as well as worked individually with adolescents of a variety of presentations, risk levels, and needs.
