Mindfulness Training

The average person spends much of their time lost in thought, multitasking, or going through the motions of their everyday routine on “autopilot”. An individual struggling with anxiety, depression, or other mental health problems spends even more of their time distracted by worries, ruminations, or judgments about themselves and their environments.

Often, a major contributor to emotional suffering is a deficit in mindfulness. Mindfulness is the skill of bringing one’s attention to the present moment. It requires noticing and letting go of worry thoughts, judgments, and attachments. In essence, mindfulness practice is training the mind to focus where one wants it to be, allowing the individual to fully participate in meaningful activities.

In addition to teaching mindfulness concepts at BCSC, we coach specific mindfulness strategies that can help an individual manage a number of problems, including anxiety, stress, physical discomfort and pain, panic, and emotion dysregulation.

With practice, individuals gain mastery over identifying and managing their thoughts, sensations, and emotions. Mindfulness training is a core element of DBT skills training, exposure work, and executive function coaching, and it also can be a stand-alone service.
