Julie is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts at the Boston Child Study Center where she specializes in providing individual therapy, group therapy, parent coaching, and family therapy to youth, young adults, and families. Julie has formal training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for Complex PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Prior to her time at BCSC, Julie worked at a trauma-informed residential treatment program through Justice Resource Institute (JRI) where she held the role of Clinical Director. While there, she integrated trauma-informed care utilizing the Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC) model within the context of individual, group, family, and milieu therapy and case management. She was also formally trained in Sensory Motor Arousal and Regulation Treatment (SMART). As a Clinical Director, Julie led a clinical department that specialized in treating adolescents and young adults primarily diagnosed with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, substance use, and other comorbid diagnoses. Julie also was able to focus on treatment specifically geared towards LGBTQ+ youth navigating gender identity and sexual orientation.
Julie earned her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine at Boston University’s Graduate School of Medicine. While at Boston University, Julie completed a practicum at Riverside Life Skills, a therapeutic day program for adolescents navigating mental health and social-emotional needs. Additionally, Julie completed an internship at McLean-Franciscan Hospital for Children’s Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit working to assist in stabilizing children and adolescents experiencing significant psychiatric crises.
Julie believes in providing a nurturing and supportive environment within the therapeutic setting that encourages collaboration and the development of a positive and unique sense of self. She focuses on practices and interventions that capitalize on resiliency and increase each individual’s internal capacity to develop skills for current and future success.
