Sophie Atwood, M.A.

Fellow in Mental Health Counseling

Sophie Atwood is a Fellow in Mental Health Counseling at the Boston Child Study Center where she provides supervised direct patient care in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) services. Sophie received her B.A. in Psychology from Connecticut College. Following her undergraduate education, Sophie earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at New York University. She completed her initial training at Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, providing individual and group therapy services to adolescents experiencing behavioral, emotional and mental health needs.

Most recently, Sophie has trained at McLean Hospital’s 3East Program for girls, where she receives extensive training in DBT and works with adolescents suffering from symptoms of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and emerging borderline personality disorder (BPD). In this role, Sophie facilitates and leads therapeutic skills groups and provides clinical support to residents and their caregivers. As a clinical educator, Sophie also assists in the development and implementation of a Dialectical Behavior Therapy curriculum.

Sophie is currently accruing her clinical training hours towards her Mental Health Counseling license. Her clinical interests include using DBT to treat anxiety, depression, suicidal behavior, and self-injury.
