Monica Arkin, PhD

Clinical Psychology Fellow
Dr. Monica Arkin is a clinical psychology postdoctoral fellow at the Boston Child Study Center. She provides evidence-based treatment to children and adolescents coping with traumatic stress, suicidal ideation, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal challenges. Dr. Monica specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Dr. Monica believes every young person should feel fully seen, and as such enjoys incorporating cultural values, client interests, and broader topics of identity development into sessions so that treatment is personalized to each unique individual. Dr. Monica also believes in the importance of collaboration; she has extensive experience partnering with other important adults in her clients’ lives such as caregivers, medical providers, school staff, and sports coaches to create a strong network of support.
Dr. Monica received her B.A. in psychology from the University of Michigan and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from University of Massachusetts Boston. She completed her predoctoral internship at Cambridge Health Alliance, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Monica has experience working at various levels of care, including short-term inpatient, long-term inpatient, outpatient, school, and summer camp settings. Her previous clinical training sites include the UMass Chan Adolescent Continuing Care Units, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital adult inpatient unit, UMass Boston Counseling Center, Walker Therapeutic School, and Beber Camp. Dr. Monica’s previous research focused on the role of spirituality in coping with trauma. Her current research is focused on summer camp as an important developmental setting for both campers and counselors. In addition to her clinical and research training, Dr. Monica also enjoys teaching – she taught several semesters of an undergraduate psychology course focused on adolescent development at UMass Boston.
