Sarah Gelfond is a Clinical Associate & Clinical Social Work Fellow. Sarah attended the Boston University Graduate School of Social Work where she earned her Master’s degree in of Social Work through the school’s Advanced Standing program. Sarah’s education was centered on a clinical track, specializing in children, youth, and families. Her master’s level field placement was with Riverside Community Care in Somerville, Massachusetts, specifically in their in-home therapy and school-based programs. In performing her in-home therapy work, Sarah utilized a strengths-based, family systems approach to support families with youth diagnosed with Severe Emotional Disturbances (SED). The schools that Sarah provided one-on-one and group counseling included the Arthur D. Healey School and Somerville High School. Many of the students she worked with had diagnoses of anxiety, depression, and/or ADHD.
Sarah graduated from Syracuse University in 2021, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, along with achieving a minor in Psychology. During her undergraduate career, Sarah held various internship positions. During her senior year (2020-2021), Sarah’s field placement was with Coordinated Care Services Inc., where her role was to support at-risk youth and their families in Syracuse through the COVID-19 pandemic. This involved conducting home consultations to connect families with resources, support youth through online learning, and problem-solve regarding conflicts within the home. In the fall of 2019, she served as a mentor for elementary and middle school students participating in the Westcott Community Center’s afterschool program.
Sarah is passionate about collaborating with youths and their families in achieving their goals. This fall, Sarah will be taking her exam to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and then she will be working towards her independent Social Work license.
