Clinical Extern

Mariela Jiménez, B.S., is a clinical extern at the Boston Child Study Center, where she provides comprehensive direct patient care in exposure therapy and tic/trichotillomania and impulse control disorder treatments to children and adolescents, along with parent coaching under the guidance of her supervisors. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with a minor in Spanish from the University of Delaware and has previously worked as a behavior therapist and clinical research assistant at the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute in Philadelphia. Currently, Mariela is a third-year doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research focuses on the parent-provider relationship and learning ways to better empower and engage parents in their child’s services.

While at Drexel, Mariela worked as an early interventionist with young children using the Early Start Denver Model and gained experience with parent coaching. Through her lab at UMB, she has also managed neuropsychological assessment for young children with presenting social communication delays, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and anxiety. More recently, she completed a clinical externship at the Counseling Center at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where she gained experience providing outpatient therapy and managing psychosocial and neuropsychological assessment for young adults with presenting anxiety, mood disorders, gender dysphoria, executive functioning concerns, grief, and interpersonal struggles.
