Dr. Daniel Johnson
DIRECTOR OF ACT PROGRAM
Dr. Dan Johnson is a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Health Service Provider who joined the BCSC team in 2016. He specializes in evidence-based treatments including acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and prolonged exposure (PE) for youth and adults with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, and substance use problems. As the Director of the ACT Program at BCSC, he is committed to helping patients reduce their psychological suffering and build meaningful, fulfilling lives.
Dr. Johnson received his B.A. in Psychology at University of Massachusetts, Amherst before completing his M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at University of Colorado, Boulder. He completed his predoctoral internship in 2015 at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the Veteran’s Administration Boston Healthcare System the following year. From 2016 to 2019, Dr. Johnson served as a staff psychologist in Massachusetts General Hospital’s Substance Use Disorder Division, providing outpatient care to individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric disorders.
In addition to providing clinical care, Dr. Johnson is involved in ongoing research projects at BCSC and with collaborating institutions. He has been on faculty at Harvard Medical School and has published and presented internationally on his research examining risk factors for mood disorders in adolescents and adults.
